June is Pride Month, when the world's LGBTQIA+ communities come together to celebrate love, diversity, acceptance, and unashamed self-pride. June marks Pride Month to commemorate the Stonewall riots, held against a police raid that took place at the Stonewall Inn in New York City on June 28, 1969.
How do people celebrate Pride?
The month-long celebrations and in-person gatherings happen across the nation. They include parades, marches, parties, concerts, workshops and symposiums. Memorials are also often held for members of the community who have lost their lives to hate crimes or HIV/AIDS.
How does Minnesota celebrate Pride?
The 49th annual Twin Cities Pride Festival will be held at Loring Park on July 17–18 and will feature local BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ vendors, food courts, a beer garden, and music stages.
All LGBTQIA+ people and allies are welcome! There are even more events and celebrations throughout summer. Check out the Twin Cities Pride Events Calendar for all the details.
How will Crown of Glory celebrate Pride?
Crown of Glory’s Justice and Inclusion team will celebrate Pride by sharing resources and insight in this space. We will also host a virtual community gathering, “A Conversation with our LGBTQIA+ Friends and Neighbors.” Several members of our own community will share their Pride stories and answer questions.
Pride events are open to everyone. Pride welcomes allies from outside the LGBTQIA+ community to show support, to observe, listen and to learn.
